"Thanks for a great party. Henry said it was his best party ever! I haven't laughed so much for a long time. ... An easy party to arrange - we did nothing! The boys has a ball. It was something new to them all. It's always a challenge to find a different theme for a party and Sumo fits the bill."
(Jenny, Worcester Park- following her son's 10th birthday party)
"I thought I’d just drop you a line to say thank you for doing Nicholas’ party this morning – he thoroughly enjoyed himself and declared it to be the best party he’d ever had! Our only concern is that they’re going to be running round the playground on Monday shouting 'fat boy' to anyone slightly overweight!"
(Janet, Ealing - following her son's 8th birthday party)
"Thanks for the party, everyone had a whale of a time, and Rebecca said it was fantastic!"
(Helen, Brockley - following her daughter's 15th birthday party)
"Both my husband and I would like to thank Martin so much for such a wonderful party. Our son Alex who was turning 9 had the time of his life so did his friends. Martin has got the combination of fun and discipline just right. I know that it was the talk of his class on Monday. Thank you Martin and I will recommend you to everyone."
(Jane, Farnham - following her son's 9th birthday party)
"Great party for boys this age - they were really enthusiastic and loved the fighting and dressing up!"
(Anna, Cobham - following her son's 11th birthday party)
"This is the second consecutive Sumo party we've done as it was so good the first time, my son who is now 12 wanted to do it again! I can honestly say to date, it is the best children's party I've done for either of my kids in terms of all the points above. Martin Day is fantastic with kids, they all have a really good time but in a safe controlled environment - brilliant!!!"
(Anna, Cobham - following her son's 12th birthday party)
"Martin was just great with the kids - great sense of humour and interacted with them brilliantly. We had great weather - so we were outside on the village green. Lots of spectators - parents thought it was just perfect. THANKS!"
(Helen, Great Missenden - following her church's summer kid's club event)
"... you were brilliant with the girls being teenagers, they can go either way with things like the sumo but you had a knack of pitching it just right for them... they all had so much old fashioned fun that they just seemed to be laughing the whole time. Thanks again and I will recommend you and the sumo party whenever I have the chance"
(Helen, Guildford - following her daughter's 16th birthday party)
"The kids had a great time, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the party. The kids loved putting on the outfits and jumping on each other, and just for once they are given permission to do so! This was a great party for parents as well, as there was no need for crowd control, the children were engaged for almost the whole time, a rarity with children! ... I think that it was the most relaxed kid’s birthday party I’ve ever been to., I’m sure there is some benefit to getting rid of all that pent up aggression, the boys seemed unusually laid back! You truly have a great gift, and great imagination!"
(Janet, Pirbright - following her son's 11th birthday party)
"...the downloadable invites were brilliant.
All aspects were covered pre-party and on the day everything was set up and cleared away with no fuss and I had nothing to worry about during the party ... Everything was taken care of ... the children were given safety instructions and rules before the games began.
It was by far the best party I have ever held for Jessica it was great fun (couldn't stop laughing at them). Very reasonable costs and good value for money.
I would suggest that you possibly add a medal of some description for each of the guests (obviously incorporate prices into party cost or offer as an extra) but even without this it was absolutely brilliant"
(Sarah, Walton-on-Thames - following her daughter's 10th birthday party)
"One of the boys, as he was leaving, announced confidently that it was the best birthday party he had ever attended. All the party goers enjoyed themselves. A lot of belly laughs from kids and parents. Truly comical. And very professionally run.
Martin arrived promptly, set up without fanfare and began the events with a succinct explanation of rules, & regulations. The children knew what was expected and they enjoyed the combination of letting it rip and bringing it back to a focused silence.
I particularly liked the structure of the competition. I loved Martin's props: his robe, salt, music, smoky steam, and gong. All very atmospheric and novel for western kids.
There was nothing I disliked about the event." ... (suggestion) "Perhaps Martin could have made it clear to the boys that they needed to sit and not get up and help themselves to drinks and food. Would it be helpful if there was a ten minute break between rounds for toilet, food and drink...all clearly specified at the start?"
(Gillian, Oxford - following her son's joint 9th birthday party)
"We have nothing but praise - the children and parents have all commented on how well organised, and fun the Sumo was. We would like to thank Martin for such a wonderful 'Sumo Experience'! ... it was all great!"
(Elaine, Northfields - following her school's fair)
"Martin was very professional, courteous, patient (I had many questions). He arrived in good time to set up and did not stop for 2 hours, making a lot of children very happy with their experience. I also thank him for his cheerfulness all afternoon!"
(Christele, Northfields - following her school's fair two years later)
"An excellent party that was totally new and different for the girls. Thanks again for a lovely party... I had excellent feedback on the T-shirts which the girls loved and were of a high quality." ... (suggestion) "Perhaps you could formalise helper roles and rotate between the spectators eg, gong basher, scorer, your helper to start the bout, someone to throw salt etc"
(Caroline, Weybridge - following her daughter's 9th birthday party)
"The children had an absolute ball! Martin was great with the children, kept them all under control but letting them have a huge amount of fun at the same time."
(Sarah, Sutton Green - following her son's 9th birthday party)
"Fantastic party, the kids loved it! Thanks so much. They all had so much fun. Lovely to meet you too"
(Kabita, Osterley - following her brother's 9th birthday party)
"Everyone had a great time, and Martin was an excellent manager/referee. He laid out the guidelines at the outset and then let the fun begin with a series of fights between 2 teams. He was inclusive of all the guests and even gave our youngest daughter an 'exhibition fight' allowing her to join in the fun. I would recommend this party to anyone looking for a different party experience."
(Melanee, Islington - following her daughter's 11th birthday party)
"Harvey said "the party was brilliant, I really enjoyed it and I liked your hair too" My 11 year old daughter loved it too. Everyone loved it. It was fantastic."
(Caroline, Leatherhead - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"The children all loved the Sumo party it was perfect for 8 year old boys who love to wrestle and Martin was exceptionally good at keeping them all organised and interested. As parents we laughed so much we had tears streaming down our faces. A fab experience for everyone. Highly recommended... It was perfect!"
(Vanessa, Moreton in Marsh - following her son's 8th birthday party)
"Thank you Martin for a great experience, all my colleagues are talking about the activity and how they both enjoyed taking apart and watching the activity. You were spot on with the Sumo being a crowd pleaser and great visual attraction. Look forward to working with you in future. Thank again Martin for offering a real cost effective activity and added personal touch making the activity a real treat for all."
(Delroy, Southwark - following the Targeted Youth Support Team's space at Southwark Council's 'The Mix' festival)
"It was a brilliant party and a sure fire hit with the kids - thank you so much."
(Catherine, Arborfileld - following her son's 12th birthday party)
"Amba and friends had a fabulous time - her best party yet"
(Tina, Fulham - following her daughter's 9th birthday party)
"Organisation was excellent and Martin was very helpful and flexible in trying to meet our party needs. He was a pleasure to work with on the day and I felt really wanted the party to be a success."
(Anna, Sevenoaks - following her son's 11th birthday party)
"Thanks for a brilliant party, all of the children loved it and had a lot of fun wrestling and cheering their team members on. It was also hilarious for the adults to watch too. My daughter's birthday is in May and she enjoyed it so much she's thinking of having a sumo party for her friends."
(Debbie, Lightwater - following her son's 8th birthday party)
"This was brilliant fun and an excellent way to start the Stag proceedings." ... (suggestion) "Though the wrestling was great fun, after around an hour, once everyone had had a go, things ran out of steam a bit. If there was a way of keeping the competition going or doing some sort of knock out that might help maintain interest."
(Jonathan, West Hampstead - following his mate's stag night event)
"Martin arrived promptly, set up and was busy from the first moment and he didn't stop... The children and adults were very pleased so much so that I understand a few parties will be booked for birthdays."
(Vanessa, Farnham - following her school's fair)
"Everybody who I have spoken to about Sumo Experience since this event absolutely loved it and thought how different it is ... perfect in every way."
(Vanessa, Farnham - following another booking for her school's fair 2 years later)
"Thanks very much for running the party on Sat - definitely a success with the boys and very stress free for us so a winner all round! Earplugs would have been a good idea though! A great event for 9 year old boys!"
(Amanda, New Malden - following her son's 9th birthday party)
"The children really enjoyed themselves. It kept them amused for an hour and a half. (A great feat for 10 year old boys!) Smoke machine was great."
(Amanda, Dorking - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"Thank you for such an enjoyable time. We liked everything. The only thing I would say is the floor area could have been bigger to sumo in so it wasn't over so quickly."
(Lynda, Byfleet - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"...the girls really enjoyed the party. It was as much fun to watch as it was to participate which is all too rare. I think it was good for the girls to be encouraged to use their physical strength to express their aggression in such a fun and safe way"
(Julie, Kennington - following her daughter's 13th birthday party)
"Thought the whole experience was fantastic. I was a little bit nervous at the beginning as it was something that none of them had done before, but my nerves soon disappeared once the party started. The boys had a blast. Everyone of them came to me at the end with huge smiles on their faces and saying they really enjoyed it. Thanks to Martin for great organisation and making the party fun for all involved. Would definitely recommend to other parents. Thank you very much." ... (suggestion) "My only slight concern, was that maybe more mats needed around the side as a couple of times during bouts, the kids fell off the mats, and although Martin had given specific safely advice re turning their heads when they fell, so as not to hit their faces, they obviously forgot during the excitement. Having said that, no one was injured and they all came up laughing."
(Cheryl, Yateley - following her son's 9th birthday party)
"The party was absolutely fantastic - The boys were 10 and so I reckon it was the best party they could have had - a legitimate reason to beat each other up (but very safely)! I was very impressed with everything on the day! The boys absolutely loved it! So no doubt see you again!"
(Helen, Yateley - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"I wanted to say a huge thanks for attending the event and an even bigger thanks for your enthusiasm throughout the evening. The children absolutely loved the sumo wresting itself as well as your outfit which they absolutely loved. There has been a lot of talks across the different teams about how much fun it would be to book you for a team building event!! ... thank you for putting such smiles on the children's faces."
(Natasha, Guildford - following the Surrey County Council fun-day for children in care)
"We all enjoyed it - it made hosting a kids party much easier for us, and all the boys seemed to have a great time. One Mum phoned to tell me it was a really good idea and that her son had a 'fab time'."
(Naomi, Hurst - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"Great party, kids really enjoyed themselves."
(Lisa, Weybridge - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"The children thoroughly enjoyed the party. Martin had a great rapport with the boys and quickly gained their respect."
(Carolyn, Walton-on-Thames - following her son's 9th birthday party)
"Thanks for running such a lovely party yesterday. The children really enjoyed it and I have had lots of positive comments. … I am sure you will have many more friends/siblings contact you soon."
(Catherine, Dorking - following her daughter's 9th birthday party)
"It was something different which all the children could participate in with hilarious results." ... (suggestion) "Perhaps some themed decorations could be made available for loan as part of the package? (ie. Japanese or Sumo bunting/banners)"
(Penny, Farnham - following her son's 10th birthday party )
"Many thanks for today. They all really enjoyed themselves and Jason was over the moon. He won't be forgetting his 10th birthday, happy memories for years to come especially as he was the champion... Hopefully, I will see you at another party as you will be well recommended. It was real fun "
(Sacha, Farnham Royal - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"I was going to email you this am and say a BIG THANK YOU for a great party. The kids really enjoyed themselves and that is what it is all about. Thanks again for your time, you have a very good approach with the kids (obviously it comes with experience!) ... The children love the 'dressing up' and competition of the event. Luckily this was something none of the group had done before but all were keen to have another go!"
(Julie, Thames Ditton - following her daughter's 11th birthday party)
"My son had a great birthday party. The kids had so much fun and the parents loved watching it.. Martin was fantastic with the kids. He made the children laugh with good banter but was also firm when needed to keep them under control. We all really enjoyed the sumo experience and I would recommend this to anyone thinking about having a go!!!!"
(Sylvia, Barnet - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"We had a wonderful party. The kids loved it. Thank you."
(Peggy, Knaphill - following her son's 7th birthday party)
"The party was a great success... The kids had a wonderful time and many of them have come up to me today to say how much fun it was! I really appreciate you changing the party time at such short notice..."
(Tracey, Woking - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"The children loved the sumo party, they had a lot of fun and didn't stop laughing, neither did the parents watching!"
(Debbie, Lightwater - following her son's 8th birthday party)
"We all enjoyed the event, I think it was the highlight of the week so thank you so much for helping us out with that"
(Anoopreet, Guildford - following her school's red nose day fund raiser)
"We really enjoyed the party on Saturday. Michael said it was excellent and we felt that Martin controlled the whole event (and the boys very well)! Many thanks"
(Lisa, Shamley Green - following her son's 11th birthday party)
"Liked the organization into teams of equal heights. Liked the little bit of Sumo tradition. Liked the two types of games 1.team 2. champion I thought the red circle was maybe a little too small. The battles were over very quickly without much bouncing off each other. i.e. it was too easy to be out. The final game with the handkerchief seemed to go on a bit longer but then trying to keep 8 other little boys entertained was difficult. It would seem to be a bit of a balancing act trying to give everyone a decent go without losing the interest of the spectators. I think there was a bit of an issue of how little time they got battling compared with the time they got to sit still which for 10 yr olds is difficult. I thought Martin was good at crowd control of naughty boys remembering that the boys weren't mine to yell at." ... (suggestion) "Maybe an emphasis on the team - stopping to announce the progress scores and what each team needed next to go on to win might have kept the spectators more involved. Sorry we introduced the snacks. I didn't realise how rude a few of the boys were."
(Jane, Notting Hill - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"Great to have Martin back as some of the kids had been to the previous Sumo night held at the youth club and run by him and helpful for him having been to the venue before. This all helps I feel to build up relationships and adds towards the very smooth running of the event. Great fun had by all. Thank you"
(Jo, Eashing - following her youth club's sumo evening)
"Such a laugh"
(Mia, Clerkenwell - following the farewell party for her colleagues)
"We had a brilliant day. The party ran very smoothly. The boys said it was the best party ever. The video we took had us and grand parents in fits of laughter that evening. Martin was great with the children and made the party lots of fun."
(Marian, Godalming - following her son's 11th birthday party)
"We all thought it was great fun and I only wish we had organised that the parents of the children attending the party had stayed to watch as they would have loved it. The boys loved the authenticity of the event - i.e. smoke, gong and salt."
(Bernie, Tadworth - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"We had great feedback from loads of people on the Sumo, and I asked my 9 year old daughter what was the best bit and she went on and on about how good her Sumo fight was, how she was banging the gong and was very excited in playing the nurse role 'mopping up the blood from the small Chinese looking man who cut his foot'. So she felt very involved which is what it is all about. I also managed to get one of her fights on my camcorder. In short is was great to see so many children enjoying themselves, we had the weather and it was a great day and very well worthwhile, and we also appreciate how hard you had to work at it non-stop for so long."
(Bob, Isleworth - following his local community fair)
"Many thanks for the entertainment on Saturday. Your party session was such good fun - I was at a Year 3 mum's night out last night and the mums of those that participated were full of it"
(Claire, Woking - following her son's 8th birthday party)
"The boys all really enjoyed the party. However, towards the end they were getting a bit restless. I thought it would be a good idea to get them involved a bit more in the second half - banging the gong was a good idea which they enjoyed. Maybe each team could have a scorer, or 2 at a time, and all the players could have a go at scoring. They could even score some of the cleverer moves so that there is also a team award for style as well as number of wins. Teach them a few insults in Japanese!" ... (suggestion) "Some cotton wool or something absorbent would be useful in the first aid kit for mopping up blood!"
(Candace, Gomshall - following her son's 10th birthday party)
"Beth and her friends really enjoyed the party. It was well organised but fun and Martin was a great host/ref. It was fantastic to find something a bit different which made everyone laugh so much! We would thoroughly recommend it - in fact we already have to several friends!"
(Sarah, Oxshott - following her daughter's 8th birthday party)
"Really enjoyed it as kids were kept completely focused and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was fun to see little people transform into little sumos. The kids just couldn't wait for the party and could not stop talking about it afterwards. Definitely recommend it for this age group (8 years old). Thank you so much for a great party. Michael really enjoyed it and I really appreciated your help at the end too."
(Yianna, Fetcham - following her son's 8th birthday party)
"Organised and paid for by local police so unable to comment of value for money. Young people enjoyed it and were able to grasp the point about controlling anger!"
(Jon, Haslemere - following the Sumo evening at his youth club)
"Everything was great"
(Nicola, Cranleigh - following the Sumo evening at her youth club)
"The evening is well organised and controlled which is not easy as we were holding these in four youth clubs where children are often boisterous and pushing the boundaries! Young people really engage in the challenge and it's a great way of getting rid of those simmering frustrations, so long as it's not personal! We used these to concentrate the youngsters minds on how physical pushing is okay in contact sports where special rules apply, but in the street or at school violence is not acceptable and the consequences can be severe to anyone over the age of 10" ... (suggestion) "Maybe a large mat for the adults a bit like in tennis where you have two boundaries, one for singles and one for doubles. The bouts seemed to be over very quickly!"
(Neil, Surrey Police Youth Team who sponsored Sumo events in four Surrey youth clubs)
